In California, 10 Weeks to the Primary, Feinstein Appears To Be a 'Lock' to Advance to General Election, But Who Will She Oppose?
Democrat Newsom Still Outpaces All Challengers in Governor's Race, But Republican Cox Is Tight on Democrat Villaraigosa's Heels:

10 weeks till votes are counted in the statewide primary for California Governor, 5 candidates emerge with an opportunity to be one of the Top-2 finishers, according to fresh SurveyUSA research conducted for KABC-TV in Los Angeles, KPIX-TV in San Francisco, KGTV-TV in San Diego, The Union Tribune Newspaper in San Diego, and KFSN-TV in Fresno.

Today, it's Democrat Gavin Newsom 22%, Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa 14%, Republican John Cox 11%, Democrat John Chiang 9%, and Republican Travis Allen 7%. Of the 20 candidate names offered to survey respondents, none of the rest have more than 3% support.

Compared to a SurveyUSA poll 12 weeks ago, Newsom is up 3 points (from 19% then to 22% today), Villaraigosa is up 4 points (from 10% then to 14% now), Cox is up 7 points (from 4% then to 11% now), Chiang is up 4 points (from 5% then to 9% today).

Newsom's support is old, wealthy, liberal and concentrated in the Bay Area (where, in a field with dozens of candidates, the former mayor of San Francisco gets 41% of the vote). Villaraigosa's support is moderate, female, minority, working class and concentrated in greater Los Angeles. Cox's support is white, male, conservative, high-school educated, and concentrated in the Inland Empire.

Dianne Feinstein has no serious opposition at this hour, but whom she will face in the 11/08/18 General Election remains a mystery. Feinstein is at 31% today, down 3 points from a SurveyUSA poll 12 weeks ago, when she was at 34%. Her closest challengers today are Republican Stephen Schrader at 7% and Republican Timothy Charles Kalemkarian, Republican Patrick Little, Democrat Kevin De Leon, and Democrat John Melendez all at 5%.

Democrat Jerry Brown's Net Job Approval today is Plus 9 --- 49% of California voters approve of the job Brown is doing as Governor, 40% disapprove. 12 weeks ago, Brown's Net Job Approval was Plus 17.

Democrat Kamala Harris has a Plus 13 Net Job Approval today --- 44% of California voters approve of the job she is doing as United States Senator; 31% disapprove.

Democrat Nancy Pelosi has a Minus 9 Net Job Approval today --- 36% of voters statewide approve of the job the House Minority Leader is doing; 45% disapprove. Even in Pelosi's backyard, the Bay Area, she is under water: 39% of voters there approve of the job she is doing, 42% disapprove.

About: SurveyUSA interviewed 1,100 adults statewide 03/22/18 through 03/25/18. Of the adults, 882 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 517 were identified by SurveyUSA as likely to vote in the 06/05/18 Top-2 Primary.
