VA-5 Rep. Goode Re-Elected by 2:1 Margin: In an election for US House of Representatives in Virginia's 5th Congressional District held today, 08/13/08, incumbent Republican Virgil Goode defeats Democratic attorney Tom Perriello by 34 points, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WDBJ-TV Roanoke and WJLA-TV Washington DC. Goode takes 64% of the vote; Perriello takes 30%. Independent Green candidate Sherman Wichter takes 1% of the vote. Goode wins 66% of men, 62% of women. Goode wins 64% of likely voters age 18 to 49 and 64% of likely voters age 50+. 27% of Democrats cross over to vote for Republican Goode; 6% of Republicans cross over to vote for Democrat Perriello. Independents break 3:1 for the incumbent. Goode was first elected in 1996; he is seeking his seventh term.
 
Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 adults from Virginia's 5th Congressional District 08/10/08 through 08/12/08. Of them, 806 identified themselves as being registered to vote; of them, 615 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 11/04/08 general election.
