Cubans in Miami-Dade County Support Trump Administration Sanctions Against Havana, Back Expulsion Of Cuban Diplomats from USA, Want to See Cuban Gov't Returned to List of State-Sponsored Terrorists: SurveyUSA interviewed 405 Cubans from Miami-Dade County FL 10/18/17 through 10/25/17 on behalf of the Inspire America Foundation. 59% of the interviews were conducted in English, 41% were conducted in Spanish. All of those interviewed were registered to vote. Among the survey's key findings: * By more than 2:1, Cubans support new sanctions against the Cuban government announced by the Trump administration in June 2017. * A plurality, 44%, say that the Trump administration's decision in August 2017 to reduce the number of American diplomats in Havana and to expel Cuban diplomats from the United States was the right response to incidents of hearing loss and possible brain damage. Older Cubans are more likely to say the August action did not go far enough. Younger Cubans are more likely to say the August action went too far. * By 5:3, Cubans say that the Cuban government should be returned to the list of state-sponsored terrorists. Young and old see the question in stark contrast: Seniors by 9:1 want to see Cuba returned to the list. Younger Cubans by 5:2 do not. * Overwhelming numbers say that Cubans who have worked for the Cuban police, military or intelligence agencies should not be eligible for visa and immigration benefits. * Overwhelming numbers say that Cubans who have committed human-rights violations should not be eligible for visa and immigration benefits. * Miami-Dade Cubans interviewed by SurveyUSA immediately after the 2016 presidential election voted 2:1 for Trump. Exit-poll data suggests that Trump's advantage among Miami-Dade Cubans may have been smaller. |

7 | The Cultural Exchange Program, as it exists today, allows only those Cuban performers approved by the Cuban government to come to the United States and perform for profit. The Cuban performers are required to share their earnings with the Cuban government. American performers are not allowed to perform inside of Cuba unless they are approved by the Cuban government and agree to not criticize the Cuban government: Do you support or oppose the Cultural Exchange Program as it exists today? |
