Hutchison Gains Support as Voters Begin To Focus on Primary for King County WA Executive, But No Frontrunner Emerges to Oppose Her in November General Election: In a primary for King County Executive today, 06/23/2009, two months until votes are counted, former television news anchor Susan Hutchison leads her closest opponents 3:1, according to an exclusive KING-TV poll conducted by SurveyUSA.

Today, Hutchison gets 41% of the vote, up from 34% two and a half weeks ago, King County Council member Dow Constantine takes 12% today, up from 8% in the previous poll. Council member Larry Phillips, State Senator Fred Jarrett, State Representative Ross Hunter, attorney Stan Lippmann, consultant Alan Lobdell, and frequent candidate Goodspaceguy are all in single digits. 23% of likely voters today are undecided, down from 39% in the previous poll. Ballots begin to be mailed in 36 days: significant shifts are likely to occur as more voters begin to focus.

Hutchison leads among all demographic groups and breaks 50% among Republicans, conservatives, those with incomes < $50K, and those who have not graduated from college. The top two candidates emerging from the primary will face each other in the November 3 general election; while Hutchison appears well positioned to advance, it's unknowable who she will oppose on the November ballot.

Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 1,300 adults from King County 06/20/09 and 06/22/09. Of them, 1,166 identified themselves as being registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 508 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the primary. The election will be conducted entirely by mail; ballots begin to be mailed on July 29.
