Keisha Lance Bottoms Emerges from Crowded Field As Likely Challenger to Mary Norwood in Atlanta Mayor Runoff: Mary Norwood is almost certain to finish first in the election for Mayor of Atlanta on 11/07/17, but almost certain not to win the seat outright that day, according to SurveyUSA's most recent polling for WXIA-TV, the Tegna-owned NBC affiliate in Atlanta. 12 candidates are on the ballot, and to avoid a December runoff, Norwood would need to get 50% plus 1 vote, which is theoretically possible but unlikely, given that just 14% of likely voters tell SurveyUSA they are undecided at this hour, 5 weeks till votes are counted. City Council member Keisha Lance Bottoms today is the most likely to advance to a runoff and oppose Norwood. Bottoms is at 15% today, up from 9% when SurveyUSA last polled the city on 07/19/17. Norwood is up 1 point, from 27% to 28%, compared to SurveyUSA's 07/19/17 release. Behind Norwood and Bottoms today, Caesar Mitchell is at 10%, unchanged from July. All other candidates are in single digits, unchanged from July. Norwood's support is disproportionately old, white, conservative and Republican. Bottom's support is middle-aged, female, black, moderate and Democratic. Norwood and Bottoms run effectively even among lower-income voters; Norwood leads by 20 points among the city's most affluent voters. About: SurveyUSA interviewed 950 adults from the city of Atlanta 09/26/17 through 09/30/17. Of the adults, 847 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, SurveyUSA identified 549 who were likely to vote in the November general election. This research was conducted using blended sample, mixed mode. Respondents reachable on a home telephone (72% of likely voters) were interviewed on their home telephone in the recorded voice of a professional announcer. Respondents not reachable on a home telephone (28% of likely voters) were shown a questionnaire on the display of their smartphone, tablet or other electronic device. This analysis is a material part of the survey's results. |
