Unknowable at this Hour: Who Will be At Top of Ticket in November 2020 for Both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party;
Knowable at this Hour: California's 55 Electoral College Votes, Most in the Nation, Will Go To The Democrats, Whoever They Are:

No one knows who will be on the Democratic ticket for President and Vice President in November 2020, 15 weeks till the Iowa Caucuses and 1 year till votes are counted. While it is possible that the Republican 2020 ticket will be incumbent President Donald Trump and current Vice President Mike Pence, any one of a number of separate scenarios may upset that cart, in part or in full. But regardless of remarkable uncertainty on the national political stage not seen since 1968, one thing appears clear: Democrats will hold California's critical 55 electoral college votes, according to fresh, nationwide research conducted by SurveyUSA.

Alone, California accounts for 20% of the electoral votes needed to win the Presidency (55 divided by 270 = 20.4%). Hillary Clinton carried California by 30 points in 2016. Barack Obama carried California by 23 points in 2012 and by 24 points in 2008. In head-to-head hypothetical matchups today, 10/22/19, Democrats carry California by 11 to 35 points, depending on who is on the Republican ticket and who is on the Democratic ticket:

* Joe Biden defeats Trump today by 27 points.
* Bernie Sanders defeats Trump today by 26 points.
* California's Kamala Harris defeats Trump today by 22 points.
* Elizabeth Warren defeats Trump today by 21 points.
* Pete Buttigieg defeats Trump today by 18 points.

* Biden defeats Mike Pence today by 28 points; Pence runs 1-point weaker than Trump.
* Sanders defeats Pence today by 27 points; Pence runs as strong as Trump against Sanders.
* Harris defeats Pence today by 22 points; Pence runs as strong as Trump against Harris.
* Warren defeats Pence today by 22 points; Pence runs 1-point weaker than Trump.
* Buttigieg defeats Pence today 11 points; Pence runs 7 points stronger than Trump against Mayor Pete.

* Biden defeats Nikki Haley today by 35 points.
* Sanders defeats Haley today by 35 points.
* Warren defeats Haley today by 29 points.
* Harris defeats Haley today by 29 points.
* Buttigieg defeats Haley today by 20 points.

In the event that Trump survives an impeachment trial, this survey does not attempt to measure whether Trump runs stronger with Pence as his 2020 running mate or with Haley on the ticket. This research does not attempt to measure which combination of Democrats would make for the strongest Democratic ticket.

About: SurveyUSA interviewed 1,600 California adults 10/15/19 through 10/16/19, immediately after the Democratic Candidate debate in Ohio 10/15/19. Of the adults, 1,242 are registered to vote in the state of CA and were asked the substantive questions in this survey. The field period for this research was deliberately compressed to ensure that respondents were reacting to the same set of publicly known facts about the possible impeachment of the President, with new developments occurring almost hourly. This poll does not have predictive value: much evidence, both damning and exculpatory, relating to the Congressional branch's oversight of the Executive branch, will be released between today and whenever a trial in the US Senate convenes. Each new piece of evidence will alter the calculation that California voters must make about how they will vote in the CA primary on Super Tuesday and how they will vote in the general election, currently scheduled for 11/03/20.
