Washington Women Re-Elect Gregoire Governor in Rossi Rematch:
24 hours till votes are counted in Washington state, incumbent Democratic Governor Christine Gregoire appears positioned to retain her seat in Governor of Washington, defeating Republican Dino Rossi in a rematch, 52% to 46%. Rossi and Gregoire had been inside the margin of sampling error in 8 previous SurveyUSA tracking polls. Today, on the campaign's final day, Gregoire polls higher than 50% for the first time, Rossi polls as low as he has polled in 7 months. Women make the difference. Rossi and Gregoire tie among men. Gregoire leads by 12 among women. Most in Washington who plan to vote have already done so. The contest is tied among those who promise to return a ballot before the deadline. But among those who have already mailed the ballot, Gregoire is up by 8.
In the battle for Washington's 11 electoral votes, Barack Obama finishes 16 points atop John McCain. 800 adults were interviewed 10/30/08 through 11/02/08. Of them, 714 were registered to vote. Of them, 663 were determined by SurveyUSA to have already voted, or to be likely to vote on or before election day. |
