| Those in Cincinnati Who Would Ride a Streetcar Favor It, Non-Riders Oppose: Half of Cincinnati adults see a a streetcar line between downtown and neighborhoods near the University of Cincinnati as a "waste of taxpayer money," according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for The Cincinnati Enquirer. 24% say the streetcar would "revitalize Cincinnati's core;" 20% say it is a "risky project," but should still be built in order to help improve the city.
By 2:1, Cincinnati opposes borrowing $64 million to fund construction. 46% do not think the streetcar line will ever be built. If the line is built, half say ongoing operating costs should be paid by riders. 1 in 5 want ongoing costs to be paid by businesses who sponsor streetcars and streetcar stops.
Those who predict they would ride a streetcar regularly like the project much more than those who do not think they would ride: 600 adults from the city of Cincinnati were interviewed by SurveyUSA 05/18/10 through 05/19/10. |
