Huelskamp Sails To Victory in KS-01, Republicans Hold Moran's Seat: In an election for US House of Representatives in Kansas' 1st Congressional District today, 10/07/10, one week till advance voting begins, Republican Tim Huelskamp defeats Democrat Alan Jilka 63% to 26%, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KWCH-TV Wichita.
Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released 2 months ago, little has changed; Jilka has gained some ground among men and voters under age 50, but continues to trail by more than 2:1 among both groups. Huelskamp remains above 60% among both men and women, young and old. 1 in 10 Republicans cross over to vote for the Democrat; 1 in 4 Democrats cross over to vote for the Republican. Independents favor Huelskamp 2:1. The 1st District, created in 1874, has been represented by a Democrat only for one term, from 1953-1955. Incumbent Republican Jerry Moran is running for US Senate. |
Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 adults from Kansas' 1st Congressional District 10/05/10 through 10/06/10. Of them, 798 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 541 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 11/02/10 general election. All interviews were conducted after a candidate debate on 10/04/10. Advance voting begins in 1 week, on 10/13/10. |
