About the Research / Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed a total of 501 District of Columbia registered voters who voted in the November 2022 general election or the November 2020 general election. This research was conducted 02/20/23 through 02/26/23 using blended sample, mixed mode. Respondents reachable on a home telephone (35% of voters) were interviewed on their home telephone in the recorded voice of a professional announcer, using telephone sample of registered voters purchased from Aristotle in Washington DC. Respondents unreachable on a landline telephone (65% of voters) were shown the survey questions on the display of their smartphone, laptop or tablet, using online adult panelists chosen randomly by Lucid Holdings LLC of New Orleans. The combined pool of survey respondents was weighted to US Census targets for gender, age, race, education, home ownership, and to additional targets for school attendance.

14Recently, the DC Council and Mayor approved a new contract that will increase current Washington Teacher Union retention pay by 4% and include a 12% retroactive raise for the past three years of bargaining. The average salary for a public school educator in DC will now be $92,000 a year. Currently, charter public school educators are not included in this pay increase. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Public charter school educators who are currently educating 48% of DC students deserve fair and competitive compensation for their work.

16Last summer the DC Council voted to give charter schools a 3.1% funding increase to their facilities allowance. The DC Council should maintain this funding so charter schools can continue to make rent or mortgage payments, to complete major renovations or modernizations, and for utilities, repairs, and maintenance.

Based on what you know, do public and private colleges give greater consideration in admissions to applicants who are family members of graduates of the same school, sometimes referred to as a legacy preference?

18Several private colleges in DC in fact do give favorable treatment to applicants who are family members of graduates of that school, increasing the likelihood they will be accepted while decreasing the chances for other applicants. Again, this is what people mean when they refer to a legacy preference in admissions. Would you support or oppose legislation that would ban public and private DC colleges from applying a legacy preference when considering applicants?

10Now we have some questions about the public school system here in DC.
