SurveyUSA's First Look at 2028 Democratic Presidential Contest Shows Harris 3:1 Ahead of Nearest Competitors, With Many Others in Contention: SurveyUSA asked 835 registered voters who have never voted for Donald Trump which Democrat they'd most like to see run for President in 2028. 2024 Nominee Kamala Harris finishes first as the choice of 37% overall, including 52% of Black voters, 50% of those with high school educations, 44% of conservatives who have never voted for Trump, 44% of those living in urban areas, 44% of those who voted for Democrats in two of the past three Presidential elections, and 43% of both Democrats and those who rent their homes. Harris is the leading candidate among every demographic subgroup. Should Harris not get the nomination, support for remaining names is clustered closely together: 11% would choose Pete Buttigieg, including 20% in the East North Central states, 17% of Midwesterners, of Mountain State voters, and liberals, and 16% of suburban women. 9% pick Gavin Newsom, including 20% in the Pacific states and 17% in the West. 7% go with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, including 16% of Latino voters and 12% of 18-to-34 year-olds. 7% choose Mark Cuban, including 20% of the small number of Republicans who have never voted for Trump and 16% of both West North Central voters and those who have voted for a Democratic Presidential candidate in one of the past three elections. 6% choose Josh Shapiro, including 19% in the Mid-Atlantic states and 17% in the Northeast. 4% pick Gretchen Whitmer, including 11% in the East North Central states. 3% select Andy Beshear, including 26% in the East South Central states. 2% pick Wes Moore, including a high of 10% among Republicans. 1% choose Chris Murphy, including a high of 6% of Republicans. About the Poll / Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 2,000 US adults age 18+ online 02/13/25 through 02/16/25, using non-probability sample provided by Lucid Holdings LLC of New Orleans. Of the adults, 1,705 were identified as being registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 835 were identified as having not voted for Donald Trump in any of the 2024, 2020, or 2016 elections and were asked the question which follows. The pool of adult survey respondents was weighted to US Census American Community Survey targets for gender, age, race, education, and home ownership, and to 2024 recalled vote.
