Republican Collins Well Positioned to Hold Maine Senate Seat for GOP: In an election for United States Senator from Maine today, 09/24/08, Republican incumbent Susan Collins defeats Democrat Tom Allen 55% to 39%, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WCSH-TV Portland and WLBZ-TV Bangor.
Collins, first elected in 1996, takes a majority of votes among men and women, young and old, in the north and in the south. Allen, who represents Maine's first congressional district in the United States House, takes 70% of Democratic votes; Collins takes 85% of Republican votes. Independents favor Collins by 18 points. Collins takes 78% of conservative votes; Allen takes of liberal votes; moderates break 5:4 for Collins. |
Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 Maine adults 09/22/08 through 09/23/08. Of the adults, 820 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 675 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely voters in the 11/04/08 general election. |
