| Gregoire & Rossi Run Even in WA State Governor Rematch: 21 weeks until the election for governor of Washington state, incumbent Democrat Christine Rossi and Republican challenger Dino Rossi remain effectively even, according to this latest SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted exclusively for KING-TV in Seattle and KATU-TV in Portland Oregon. Today, it's Gregoire 50%, Rossi 47%, within the survey's 4 percentage point margin of sampling error. Compared to identical SurveyUSA surveys conducted two months ago and one month ago, little has changed; Gregoire has consistently received 49% or 50% of the vote, and Rossi has consistently received 46% or 47%. Rossi leads by 8 points among men; Gregoire leads by 16 among women -- a 24 point gender gap. Among Republicans, 11% cross-over and vote Democratic. Among Democrats, 13% cross-over and vote Republican. Independents break 6:5 for Rossi. Gregoire was elected to her first term in 2004, when multiple recounts were needed to determine the winner. On the third recount, Gregoire was determined to have received 129 more votes than Rossi. Gregoire succeeded Democrat Gary Locke. The state has not had a Republican governor in 23 years, since John D. Spellman left office in 1985. |
| Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 Washington adults 06/07/08 through 06/09/08; of the adults, 778 identified themselves as being registered to vote in Washington state. Of the registered voters, 637 identified themselves as being likely to vote in the November general election. 37 of Washington's 39 counties vote exclusively by mail; ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day, November 4. |
