Connecticut: McCain Trails Significantly in Joe Lieberman's Home State: In an election for President of the United States in Connecticut today, 09/26/08, Democrat Barack Obama defeats Republican John McCain 54% to 38%, according to this SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WABC-TV New York.

Obama takes a majority of votes among men and women, young and old, white and black. McCain leads among conservatives, Republicans, pro-life voters, gun owners, and those who regularly attend religious services. Obama leads by double digits in Hartford County, New Haven County, and Fairfield County; McCain and Obama tie in the rest of the state.

Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 Connecticut adults 09/24/08 and 09/25/08. The research was conducted at a time of unprecedented economic and political turbulence. Of the adults, 807 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 686 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely voters in the 11/04/08 general election. Connecticut has 7 Electoral College votes. It is home to US Senator Joseph Lieberman, one of McCain's most visible and outspoken supporters and possibly McCain's first choice for running mate. John Kerry carried the state by 10 points in 2004, but McCain underperforms Bush at this point in 2008.
