Just 10% of Likely Voters in May NC Primary Plan to Vote by Mail; 7 of 10 Registered Voters Confident Primary Votes Will be Counted Accurately;
Proposal to Require All Mail-In Ballots, Including Military Ballots From Overseas, to Arrive by Election Day Backed by 2:1 Margin of Voters.


Only 10% of likely voters in the upcoming May primary for US Senate say they will vote by mail, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll conducted for WRAL-TV in Raleigh. 49% say they will vote in-person at an early voting center; 37% will vote in-person on Election Day. Democrats are more than twice as likely as Republicans to say they will vote by mail; Republicans and Democrats are equally likely to vote early in-person; Republicans are 13 points more likely than Democrats to plan to vote in-person on Election Day.

37% of registered voters say they have "full confidence" votes cast in the Senate primary will be counted accurately; 32% say they have some confidence. 17% say they have little confidence; 8% say they have none. 57% of those who voted for Joe Biden in 2020 say they have full confidence the Senate primary votes will be accurately counted; just 19% of Trump voters agree.

56% of voters support requiring all mail-in ballots, including military ballots from overseas, to arrive by Election Day or not be counted. 29% are opposed. Support is strong across most groups, with opposition outweighing support only among those identifying as liberals.

About: SurveyUSA interviewed 2,500 North Carolina adults 04/06/2022 through 04/10/2022. Of the adults, 2,068 are registered to vote in North Carolina. Of the registered voters, SurveyUSA identified 1,116 as being likely to cast a ballot in the May 17 primary election for United States Senate. This research was conducted online among a representative cross section of North Carolina adults. Sample selected at random by Lucid Holdings LLC of New Orleans. Adult respondents were weighted to US Census targets for gender, age, race, education, and home-ownership.
