In Indiana, 19 Days Till Hoosier Votes Are Counted, Republicans Positioned to Capture 11 Electoral Votes, Hold State House And Seize
Open Attorney General Seat --- But, That Depends on GOP Election-Day Turnout; Democrats Have Early Voting Edge in 2 of 3 Contests:

In an election in Indiana today, incumbent Republican President Donald J. Trump captures the state's 11 Electoral College votes, edging Democratic challenger Joseph R. Biden, 49% to 42%; incumbent Republican Governor Eric Holcomb holds off 2 challengers to keep the State House; and Republican Todd Rokita defeats Democrat Jonathan Weinzapfel in the fight for the state's open Attorney General seat, according to SurveyUSA research crowdsourced on GoFundMe by Andrew Ellison.

Those outcomes are predicated on Republicans, who disproportionately say they plan to vote in person on Election Day, turning out on Election Day, whatever fate the Coronavirus gods and Mother Nature have in store for the Upper Midwest on Tuesday, 11/03/2020. Enough Democrats will have voted before Election Day, whether by US mail or in person, that Biden would defeat Trump and Weinzapfel could defeat Rokita if Election Day turnout collapses for any reason.

At present, Holcomb leads Democrat Woody Myers and Libertarian Donald Rainwater 55% to 25% to 10%. Holcomb leads Myers 3:1 among senior citizens and 2:1 among independents. While Holcomb holds 82% of the GOP base (11% defect to the Libertarian), Myers holds just 59% of the Democratic base; 28% of Democrats cross-over and vote Republican. Voters say the economy is the most important issue in 2020, and among those voters, Holcomb leads Myers 5:1 and leads Rainwater 8:1.

Holcomb has a stunning Plus 43 Net Approval Rating (67% of voters approve of the job he is doing as Governor, compared to 24% who disapprove. By contrast: Myers has a Plus 2 Net Favorability Rating, which would not be bad in the final furlong of a fiercely fought general election if 54% of voters did not say they had no opinion of Myers one way or the other. 67% of voters have no opinion of Rainwater.

In the contest to replace Curtis Hill as Attorney General, at this hour it's Rokita 48%, Weinzapfel 35%. Weinzapfel leads in greater Indianapolis, but trails elsewhere in the state.

In the fight for the White House, Biden leads Trump 5:3 in greater Indianapolis, but Trump leads Biden 2:1 in Central Indiana, 3:2 in Southern Indiana and 5:4 in Northern Indiana. Trump leads 5:1 among voters who are strongly pro-life. Biden leads 3:1 among voters who are strongly pro-choice. Biden leads 2:1 among voters who say healthcare is the most important issue, but Trump leads by 48 points among the larger group of voters who say the economy is the most important issue in 2020. Of Biden voters, 39% are voting "against Trump." Just 56% are voting "for Biden."

53% of Indiana adults think marijuana should be legal in Indiana for both medical use and recreational use. Just 16% statewide say marijuana should remain illegal. 24% say marijuana should be legal for medical use but not for recreational use. The majority in conservative Indiana want decriminalization across the board, including 63% of Democrats and 76% of liberals.

3 of 4 adults statewide want Indiana residents to continue to wear facemasks in public spaces.

68% of adults statewide are familiar with the Supreme Court decision in Roe v Wade. Those familiar with the case want Roe to remain the law of the land by 2:1. Just 27% want Roe overturned.

About: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 adults statewide 10/08/2020 through 10/13/2020. Of the adults, 757 are registered to vote in Indiana. Of the registered voters, SurveyUSA identified 527 voters likely to return a ballot on or before the 11/03/2020 deadline. This research was conducted online among a representative cross section of Indiana adults. Sample selected at random by Lucid Holdings LLC of New Orleans. Adult respondents were weighted to the most recent US Census targets for Indiana for gender, age, race, education, and home-ownership. In 2016, Trump carried Indiana by 19 points. In November 2020, multiple overlapping forces are at work to limit the predictive value of public opinion polls. The manner, timing, and way in which many voters will mark a ballot in 2020 will differ from previous elections because of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Whether this makes turnout higher than anticipated, lower than anticipated or just different from past elections is unknowable. Whether there will be systemic voter fraud, as the President fears, or isolated and insignificant fraud, is unknowable. What may be newly revealed in the remaining 3 weeks of the campaign is unknowable. Whether there will be no transition of power, a smooth transition of power, or a period of civil unrest is unknowable. As such, this research provides rich insight into the state of play in Indiana at this hour, but may or may not correlate to what "will be" in 19 days.

3About half of those who are registered vote in a typical election. The other half do not vote. How about you? In this year's Presidential election, are you certain you will not vote? Unlikely to find time to vote? Not sure if you will or won't have a chance to vote? Likely to vote? Or 100% certain that you will make time to vote?
