GA Incumbent Republican Senator Perdue Barely Edges as Yet Un-Named Democratic Opponent, 50 Weeks to Election Day:

40% of Georgians likely to vote in the November 2020 general election for US Senator say they are certain to back incumbent Republican David Perdue, according to research conducted by SurveyUSA exclusively for WXIA-TV in Atlanta. 37% of likely general-election voters say they are certain to vote for Purdue's Democratic opponent, whoever he or she may be. Just 14% say they need to know the name of the Democrat who will be on the ballot opposing Perdue before they can make up their mind.

Perdue holds 86% of his Republican base, 82% of those who say they are "very conservative," 73% of those who say they are "conservative." The unnamed (so-called "generic") Democrat wins 2:1 among moderates, wins 14:1 among liberals and wins 20:1 among those who identify as "very liberal." Democrats break 79% to 4% for whichever Democrat wins the Democratic primary; independents break 27% to 22% for the incumbent Republican Perdue.

Perdue leads by 3:1 among white Georgians. The Democrat leads 9:1 among African Americans and 2:1 among Hispanic Americans.

Perdue carries Northwest GA, Southern GA, and Coastal GA, but the Democrat carried greater Atlanta by 15 points.

 
Georgians Support Laws to Ban So-Called Assault Rifles, Prohibit Those Convicted of Domestic Violence From Buying Guns;
Back Casino Gambling, Horse Racing; State Divided on New 'Heartbeat' Law Which Makes It More Difficult for Women to Get Abortion:

Georgia registered voters ever-so-slightly oppose a new "heartbeat" law that is designed to make it more difficult for women in GA to get an abortion, according to SurveyUSA research conducted for WXIA-TV in Atlanta.

42% statewide oppose the law, 38% support, a 4-point difference that may or may not be statistically significant. White voters back the law by 14 points. Black voters oppose the law by 42 points. Men split. Women statewide oppose the law by 9 points.

Evangelicals support the law by 41 points. Voters in Greater Atlanta oppose the law by 25 points. Republicans support the law by 55 points; Democrats oppose by 52 points. Single (never married) Georgians oppose the law 2:1, but married Georgians support the law.

Voters statewide support legalizing casino gambling 58% to 25%. Voters support legalizing horse racing 51% to 31%. Those describing themselves as "very conservative," Republicans, those who attend religious services regularly, and those age 65+ are the most likely to say both casino gambling and horse racing should remain against the law in Georgia.

Voters oppose allowing adults who own guns legally to carry them without a permit. Voters support a new law that would outlaw the sale of so-called military-style assault rifles. Voters overwhelmingly support a law that would make it illegal for anyone convicted of domestic violence to purchase a gun in Georgia.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is viewed extremely favorably by 19% of Georgia voters, viewed extremely unfavorably by 13% of Georgia voters. Combined, 42% have a favorable impression of the Governor, 25% have an unfavorable impression. 23% are neutral.

 
Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 1,900 state of GA adults 11/15/19 through 11/18/19. Of the adults, 1,538 are registered to vote. Of the registered voters, SurveyUSA identified 1,303 who are likely to vote in a general election. Interviews were completed before the Democratic candidate debate in Atlanta on 11/20/19. The research was conducted online.
