Filner Gains Among Women, Whites, Hispanics in San Diego Mayor Election:

In an election for San Diego mayor today, 09/25/12, 2 weeks until early voting begins, Congressman Bob Filner defeats City Council Member Carl DeMaio 50% to 38%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for KGTV-TV, 10News.

Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released 1 months ago, Filner is up 3 points; DeMaio is down 3 points

* Among men, Filner maintains a 3-point lead over DeMaio, unchanged since the previous poll.
* But among women, Filner had led by 10, now leads by 21.
* Among whites, Filner had trailed by 2, now leads by 8, a 10-point swing to Filner.
* Among Hispanics, Filner had led by 2 in SurveyUSA's most recent poll, now leads by 15.

While the race for mayor is non-partisan, DeMaio, a Republican, leads by 36 points among Republicans, up from 30 points 1 month ago. Filner, a Democrat, today leads by 47 points among Democrats, up from 36 points last month. Those who voted for Nathan Fletcher in the primary now support Filner by almost 2:1.

 
Cell phone respondents and home phone respondents included in this survey: SurveyUSA interviewed 850 San Diego adults 09/21/12 through 09/24/12. Of the adults, 731 were registered to vote. Of the registered, 581 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 11/06/12 general election. Incumbent Mayor Jerry Sanders is term-limited. This survey was conducted using blended sample, mixed-mode. Respondents reachable on a home telephone (79% of adults, 84% of likely voters) were interviewed on their home telephone in the recorded voice of a professional announcer. Respondents not reachable on a home telephone (21% of adults, 16% of likely voters) were shown a questionnaire on their smartphone or other electronic device
