Results of SurveyUSA Election Poll #20205 |
7 Weeks to Los Angeles Mayor Primary, Garcetti Leads Crowded Field:
In a primary election for the open seat of Mayor of Los Angeles, 4 candidates are in double-digits, with Eric Garcetti first among them, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for KABC-TV in Los Angeles. City councilman Garcetti gets 26% today among likely primary voters, followed by city controller Wendy Greuel at 18%, and broadcaster Kevin James and councilwoman Jan Perry at 12%. 4 others are farther back. Early voting begins in 3 weeks. Should any one candidate get 50% + 1 vote in the 03/05/13 primary, he or she will be elected Mayor. With an 8-person field and 4 viable candidates, that is unlikely. More likely: the top 2 finishers in the primary will advance to a 05/21/13 general election.
* Garcetti's support is male, moderate and Latino. In the election for City Attorney of Los Angeles, incumbent Carmen Trutanich today edges Mike Feuer 27% to 21%, SurveyUSA finds. Greg Smith is at 14%. Noel Weiss is at 10%. Trutanich has a broad-based coalition: He gets 27% of the vote among whites, 27% among blacks, 27% among Latinos, and 27% among Asians. Assemblyman Feuer runs well among males, senior citizens and the most affluent voters. 28% of likely voters are undecided, 7 weeks till ballots must be returned. Cell-phone and home-phone respondents included in this research: SurveyUSA interviewed 1,000 city of Los Angeles adults 01/12/13 through 01/15/13. Of the adults, 863 were registered to vote. Of the registered, 544 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 03/05/13 primary. This research was conducted using blended sample, mixed-mode. Respondents reachable on a home telephone (80% of likely voters) were interviewed on their home telephone in the recorded voice of a professional announcer. Respondents not reachable on a home telephone (20% of likely voters) were shown a questionnaire on their smartphone, tablet or other electronic device. |
