1The City of Prairie Village is considering building a new community center that would have indoor workout facilities, a weight room, swimming pools, basketball courts, and other amenities. The lowest estimated cost of the facility, according to city council members, would require a 27% increase on property taxes paid to the city for the next 30 years. City officials also say there would be a monthly membership fee.

Would you support or oppose such a project in your community if it caused a 27% increase in your city property tax?

3Owners of private fitness centers that have to compete with city or county-owned facilities want their property taxes reduced to compensate for lost income. Whatever tax break they get would be shifted to other taxpayers, unless the city or county reduced its spending to absorb the tax loss.

Do you think privately-owned fitness centers that compete with government-owned fitness centers should or should not have their property taxes reduced?
