1st Reaction to White House Release of Long-Form Obama Birth Certificate: 28% Still Have Doubts, Including 10% Who Say It's a Forgery:
A SurveyUSA nationwide poll, including cell-phone and landline respondents, conducted after the White House 04/27/11 released a more detailed certificate showing the President's birth, shows that 71% of Americans who have seen the newly public "long-form" now are satisfied that the President was born in the United States. 18% of those who have seen the certificate still have doubts about where the President was born. Another 10% say the document released by the White House is a forgery. Of those who have seen the newly public birth certificate:
* 63% say Obama was definitely born in the United States.
* 57% say they knew all along that the President was born in the USA.
* Both 27% who have seen the certificate and 27% who have not seen the certificate say the matter is still an open item for debate.
* When all Americans are asked whether Obama will be re-elected in 2012, 33% say he will be re-elected, 49% say he won't be.
* 26% of Americans say they will vote for Obama in 2012 no matter who else is on the ballot.
* 9% of Americans consider themselves to be part of the "Birther" movement. |
| This survey includes Cell Phone Respondents and Landline Respondents: 1,500 USA adults were interviewed by SurveyUSA 04/27/11, including 28% who do not have a home phone or who make or receive almost all of their phone calls on a cell phone, and 72% who were interviewed using recorded voice on their landline home telephone. Cell phone respondents are crosstabbed against landline respondents, and in these results, fewer cell phone respondents are following the news stories, and fewer cell phone respondents have seen the newly public birth certificate. Of the 1,500 Americans interviewed, 631 had seen a copy of the certificate at the time of the SurveyUSA interview. Margin of sampling error on the universe of those who have seen the birth certificate is 4 percent, though margin of error is just one of many sources of error in any opinion research undertaking.
