Democrats Hold House Seat in CO3: In an election for the U.S. House of Representatives today, 8/15/06, in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, incumbent Democrat John Salazar defeats Republican challenger Scott Tipton by 11 points, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KUSA-TV Denver. 12 weeks from the 11/7/06 general election, Salazar gets 53% of the vote. Tipton gets 42%. Libertarian Bob Sargent gets 4%. Salazar leads by 23 points among women and trails by 1 point among men, a 24-point Gender Gap. The more males who vote, the closer the contest will be. Salazar gets 92% of Democrat votes. Tipton gets 75% of Republican votes. 21% of Republicans cross over and vote for the Democrat. Independents prefer Salazar 62% to 27%. Tipton wins among voters age 35-49 but loses in other age groups. Salazar was first elected to Congress in 2004. His brother Ken Salazar is a Democratic U.S. Senator for Colorado. President George W. Bush's approval rating among likely voters in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District is 43%. |
