| 96% of NYC Democratic Primary Voters Say Ranked Choice Ballots Were Simple to Fill Out; ¾ Want to Keep or Expand Ranked Choice; 8 of 10 Say They Understand RCV Extremely or Very Well: The vast majority of voters in last week's Democratic Primary Election for Mayor of New York City say it was simple to fill out their ballots, according to exclusive SurveyUSA polling conducted for FairVote and Common Cause NY. 96% of voters say it was simple to fill out their ballot, with 72% saying it was very simple and 24% describing the process as somewhat simple. Just 4% said it was somewhat difficult, and 0% called it very difficult. At least 94% of voters in each racial group surveyed – Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian – said it was very simple or somewhat simple. 82% of voters say they ranked at least two candidates, with 45% saying they ranked the maximum number permitted, five. 9 of 10 voters say they knew before voting that they would have the option to rank candidates. | About the Research / Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 1,900 adults from the City of New York 06/24/25 through 06/27/25. Of the adults, 1,719 were registered to vote; of the registered voters, 1,154 were identified as registered Democrats. Of the Democrats, 991 were identified as having voted in the June 24 Democratic primary election and were asked the substantive questions which follow. This research was conducted using a blended sample, mixed mode design. 70% of adults / 46% of Democratic primary voters were interviewed on the display of their smartphone, tablet or other electronic device using non-probability sample of internet panel members provided by Cint USA. 30% of adults / 54% of Democratic primary voters were interviewed using probability-based telephone sample from Aristotle of Washington, DC via SMS-to-web, where live operators texted respondents on their mobile phones, secured their cooperation, and linked them to an online version of the survey. Non-probability sample was not pre-filtered for party registration or propensity of having voted in a primary; probability sample was pre-filtered for party registration and propensity for voting in primary elections. The combined pool of adult respondents was weighted to US Census ACS targets for gender, age, and ethnicity, and to publicly reported Democratic primary vote totals by borough. |
