Incumbent Republican Governor Daniels Keeps Broadening His Appeal in a Year When Few Republicans Have:
In an election for Governor of Indiana today, 10/23/08, twelve days till votes are counted, incumbent Republican Mitch Daniels defeats Democratic challenger Jill Long Thompson 54% to 35%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WHAS-TV in Louisville KY. Compared to a SurveyUSA poll 1 month ago, Daniels has increased his lead by 3 points, at a time when John McCain lost 7 net points in Indiana to Barack Obama and Republicans nationwide are being swallowed by a rising Democratic tide. Among white Hoosiers, Republican Daniels is 20 points ahead of Long Thompson, but McCain is zero points ahead of Barack Obama. Among Moderates, Republican Daniels ties Long Thompson, but Republican McCain trails Obama by 33 points.
Filtering: 800 Indiana adults were interviewed 10/21/08 and 10/22/08. Of them, 731 were registered to vote. Of them, 631 were determined by SurveyUSA to have already voted, or to be likely to vote on or before election day. |
